Anything with maple syrup in it goes into my belly! This is a recipe adapted from Canadian Living.

1 c. all-purpose flour

1/2 c. granulated sugar

4 t. baking powder

1/4 t. nutmeg

3/4 c. milk

1/4 c. butter, melted

For the sauce:

1-1/2 c. water

1 c. maple syrup

2 T. butter, melted

1 t. cornstarch

Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and nutmeg. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and butter and pour over the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Spread the batter in a greased 8-inch square glass baking dish.

To make the sauce, whisk together the water, maple syrup, butter and cornstarch. Pour this over the batter. Bake in the centre of the oven until golden and firm to the touch, 40-45 minutes.

Serves 8.
